Geek Gear: Star Trek Facepalm Magnets

I don't know why, but the "Double Facepalm." magnet makes me smile every time I see it. Isn't it great how we, as fans, can pick out minutia from the films and television shows we love and escalate them to universal cultural status?

In Previews these magnets were listed as "Please Inquire" so heaven only knows how much they cost. Remember the $60 Star Trek sticker set? (You can check it out here.)

Star Trek: Fleet Captains - Gaming Notes

Awhile back, Sam, John, my son Ben and I played Star Trek: Fleet Captains. This is a $100 game but I've got to say - I just didn't think it was worth the money. There are way too many completely random elements to the game and tons of little modifiers and counters to keep track of. Ultimately, it wasn't very fun. Not to say I didn't win! I know I'm doing well at a board game when Sam gets mad at me and says, "I've never seen anyone do that before!"

So, needless to say, I assembled my federation vessels into a massive fleet and systematically wiped his Klingon ships off the map, even hunting them down and destroying them after they cowardly tried to cloak and flee. The lamentations of Klingon women are particularly sweet!

Geek Gear: Star Trek Enterprise Bottle Opener

Similar in design to the Enterprise pizza cutter, the Star Trek: U.S.S> Enterprise Bottle Opener is another innovative use of the Enterprise design. This is the kind of thing that you might get even if you're not a Star Trek fan.  Doesn't it just look like a stylish and sturdy bottle opener?

$60 Star Trek Stickers??? SERIOUSLY!?!?

$60?!?!? SERIOUSLY!

Okay, can somebody explain to me why a set of 36 Star Trek stickers are SIXTY DOLLARS? That's the price listed in Previews for them.

I'm guessing you'd really had to have "lived long and prospered" to afford these insanely priced stickers... Perhaps you could stick them on your golden Enterprise statue or your jar of Nimoy's urine.

Rocketman (The William Shatner Version)

If you've never hear of this, you need to check it out. It's brilliant. My friend Bill showed me this some time ago  and I couldn't believe what I was seeing. William Shatner and this song were made for one another. If you have to have it explained to you, you'll never understand.

The video quality is a bit rough but than, it was 1978. Enjoy.

Crossover: Star Trek Meets Legion of Super-Heroes

Crossovers are always a little bit awkward. But I think this crossover is a bit more awkward than most. I'm a Star Trek fan but I hardly know nothing about Legion of Super-Heroes. Typically, a crossover features two properties that have some commonalities. Spawn and Batman are both heroes of the night. Superman and Spider-Man are both inspirational heroes. But the best I can think of for Star Trek and Legion of Super-Heroes is that they're both set in the future. Star Trek is in the 23rd century, Legionnaires are from the 31st century. But throw that out the window because, according to the solicitation for this comic book miniseries, both groups end up in a 23rd century that neither recognizes! This six issue story is the first crossover between a DC property and a IDW property. Could this possibly be more awkward than the Star Trek / X-Men crossover?

Geek Gear: Star Trek Pizza Cutter

Ever look a the Star Trek Enterprise and think... that thing would cut a mean pizza pie slice? Well, apparently somebody did. This Star Trek Pizza Cutter is a little bit brilliant inspiration and little bit freakish mockery. What's cool is you could pull this thing out and use it and nobody would even notice unless you pointed it out to them. What's weird is this actually looks like a pretty practical design for a pizza cutter - no more death grip on that single handle. See - Star Trek IS really the future of humanity!



What's next? Imperial Cruiser shaped trowels?..... actually.... you know what? I copyright that idea right now. Score! I'm rich!
