Arena Football Turf Disaster

I know this isn't a sports blog, but I've just got to share this. It would be hilarious if it wasn't so dangerous for the players.

The game was played between the Harrisburg Stampede and the Virginia Badgers. In wanting to scout out a new city to put a new team, they decided to play in a ice skating arena where they've never played before.

Let's just say they should have scouted better.

The ceiling was so low kickers couldn't kick without hitting the ceiling almost every time. The ice was covered with green cloth in the end zone that slid around, exposed the ice, and caused the players to fall. The turf didn't fit the arena so large wrinkles were all over the entire field. Where the seams of the turf met the wrinkles stood up as big snares that a player's foot could easily fit into and get tripped up on. My three-year-old daughter said to me, "Daddy, why are there holes all over the field?"

I honestly can't believe they even played the game, but they did. The Stampede won with a final score of 70 points, largely because every play started at mid-field due to the kick offs hitting the ceiling.

They would have been better off playing in the parking lot.

Super Bowl Surprises

Surprise #1 - Alright, so my prediction was wrong. Stupid Giants.
Surprise #2 - The commercials were surprisingly tame. I only laughed at one - the Yogurt commercial in which John Stamos got headbutted. The Seinfeld and Ferris Bueller commercials were pretty good but didn't get me to laugh. Why does it seem like advertisers barely tried this year?
Surprise #3 - The real surprise was when the singer M.I.A. flipped the bird in the middle of the halftime show (while singing a barely clipped curse word). The censored tried to catch it (you saw the screen blur for a second afterward) but missed. I'm guessing that three second delay is going to turn into a ten second delay...

Super Bowl XLVI Prediction

1LR is moderately excited about this year's Super Bowl. I definitely think it's going to be an exciting game but ultimately the Patriots are going to put this one away early. They're going to be looking for a little revenge because the Patriots ruined their perfect season a few years ago.

Final Score? Patriots - 38, Giants 27

You heard it here first.

Trick Shot Videos

I could stretch it and say these relate to "gaming" because football is a game. But I won't. I'm posting these just because, quite simply, in every regard, they are absolutely, stunningly amazing. Check them both out. One is by a college QB, the other by a 12 year old.
